Year after year, Lady Gaga always provides us with a heap of inspiration for fun and unusual Halloween costumes!

2011 is no exception. Listed below are just three of the most memorable outfits that Lady Gaga wore in public and

these are sure to be a hit if you decide to wear something similar.

The Meat Dress

The meat dress may have been famously worn by Lady Gaga last year, but it’ll still be a big hit at Halloween costume parties and parades in 2011. Rest assured, you don’t have to wear real meat  as it is not easily done or hygienic to wear.  There are many ways to creating your own fake meat, and this is one of the simplest.  First, you will need to get hold of  various meat colored material.  Its best to stick to shades of pink or red, and you will need to piece the strips together over a basic undergarment.  Lady Gaga’s dress was draped around her with longer sides and shorter back and front.  The outfit was complete with meat headpiece and meat shoes.

The Egg

When Lady Gaga launched her “Born This Way” album and single, she themed her clothing accordingly. She arrived at the Grammys in an outfit that made her look like she was  incubating inside a giant egg. This one might not be so easy for you to pull off for Halloween, but it’s worth a shot! There are usually a number of egg Halloween costumes available to buy ready made at this time of year, but unfortunately most of them come in the form of or “devilled” or fried egg. To make a more round egg shape is going to take some extra effort, but it is possible! One idea is to use a hula hoop and fabric to help achieve the round shape of the egg around you. To replicate the look from the Grammys, you can complete the outfit with a famous Lady Gaga blonde wig and makeup.

The “Unusual” Nun

The last idea on the list is to go in a version of Lady Gaga’s own unique nun-like outfit. This is pretty controversial, so wear it if you dare!

This seems to be a popular choice with Lady Gaga, as there are two versions of the Nun costume worn by Lady Gaga. The first outfit (if you can all it that) involved Lady Gaga wearing a Nun’s white habit, teamed up with a see through rubber outfit and famous monster claw of the Monster Ball.  Her nipples were hidden by tape – but this left little to the imagination.

The second outfit was a little more conservative than the first , where Lady Gaga wore a Nun’s black habit along with a white dress shaped into a circle.  If you cannot picture the outfit, try searching online as there are plenty of photographs of this outfit to view online.  Both costumes are a fun idea for Halloween if you’ve got the guts!

 Lady Gaga Bubble dress costume

One of the most outrageous outfits included the Lady Gaga Bubble dress costume.  You can actually make your own as these are not available in the shops.  Comprising of a short mini dress, the plastic bubble discs are hand sewn onto colored fabric.  The fabric can be any color of your choice, as the bubble discs are see-through.  You can also decorate the bubbles with glitter paint or beads.  Team the dress up with a Lady Gaga wig and sunglasses and you will be right to go trick or treating in no time at all.

Halloween is a tradition that is celebrated on the night of October 31st. The celebrations usually take the form of children going for “trick or treat” walks in the local neighbourhood, or by holding Halloween parties.  Halloween is celebrated in the US and in other parts of the world like the United Kingdom and Canada.

How Halloween is celebrated today goes back to the time when ancient pagans believed that October 31 is the day when the boundary between the living and the dead dissolves. Since the dead could cause harm to those who are living, people will go out into the streets wearing costumes and masks to ward off the evil spirits.

Nowadays, Halloween is celebrated just for fun. In the weeks leading up to Halloween, people would either go out and buy costumes, or make their own. The most saleable ones are the skeletons, ghosts, vampires, witches and devils. If you have the time, you can make your own costume based on a television show or movie, or even a celebrity!

People in the Halloween spirit will also put up decorations in their homes like carved pumpkins, skeletons and candles.

During parties, aside from the food and drinks, several games are played. The most common is dunking or bobbing for apples in which applies that are floating in a tub or large basin are picked up by the participants using their teeth.

Another favourite party game is to eat syrup coated scones that is hanging by a string. Again, you have to eat it without using your hands.

If you don’t want to go to party and do something daring, try going with a few friends and visit a haunted house. Many people don’t do this literally when they can have fun visiting a theme park that has something special for the occasion.

The favourite fruit during Halloween is the apple because it comes during the wake of the harvest season. You can eat it directly or have this mixed with sticky syrup and nuts.

Other countries celebrate Halloween differently. In most Asian countries, the people put food and water as well as a lantern so those who have departed will have something to eat, drink and a lighted path as they travel the earth during Halloween night. In Czechoslovakia, chairs are placed by the fireside on Halloween night. Each chair represents a living member and those who have passed on. The Swedes simply give students a day-off and a shortened working day for the employees.

But paying homage to the dead is what most countries do during Halloween. In fact, the day after which is November 1, is considered to be All Saint’s Day while November 2 is called All Soul’s Day. This is done to commemorate those who are in purgatory with the hope of being cleansed of their sins so they may go to heaven.

For most children and adults, Halloween is simply a time to have fun with friends and family. They can go around getting candy by moving from one house to the next whilst the grown ups prefer to party where there is a lot of food and drinks.

Halloween is fast approaching – and it’s time to organize the family Remember the fun you had as a kid, wearing those Halloween costumes Mom had made for us? We’d gang up with the rest of the neighbourhood kids and go around screaming “trick-or-treat!” like there’s no tomorrow, leaving our voices hoarse the next day. Well, we basically have experienced it, we let our kids practice it, but do we really know the origin of putting on Halloween costumes in the first place. Some of us may already know but for the benefit of those who don’t, here’s the story.

The origin of the celebration can be traced back to the ancient Celtics. This is based on Samhain, which  is a festival held on October 31–November 1 in Celtic cultures. The name Samhain is derived from Old Irish and means roughly “summer’s end”.

The Samhain celebrations have survived in several guises as a festival dedicated to the harvest and the dead. The night of Samhain, is one of the principal festivals of the Celtic calendar, and falls on the October 31. It represents the final harvest.

Traditionally, Samhain was time to take stock of the herds and grain supplies, and decide which animals would need to be slaughtered in order for the people and livestock to survive the winter. This custom is still observed by many who farm and raise livestock because it is when meat will keep since the freeze has come and also since summer grass is gone and free foraging is no longer possible.

Gaelic custom of wearing costumes and masks, was an attempt to copy the evil spirits or placate them. Candle lanterns carved from turnips were part of the traditional festival. Large turnips were hollowed out, carved with faces, placed in windows to ward off evil spirits.

According to Celtic belief, during this time of the year, the spirits of the dead will go up to the surface world and try to posses living bodies for the year to come. To prevent their bodies from being possessed, Celts would light bonfires and dress up in all sorts of morbid costumes to disguise themselves and discourage the spirits of the dead from entering their bodies.

However, the practice of placing costumes in America can be traced to only as recent as the 1900s. It was only in the 1930s that Halloween costumes began to be mass produced. The usual costumes that people rent or make are those of different monsters including but not limited to vampires, ghosts, ghouls, demons, witches, and skeletons.

Even if it is the night that evil is supposed to surface, “good” costumes are also a common choice among children and adults alike. In fact, princess, fairy and angel costumes are more popular these days and are often the preferred choice by parents so that younger children are not spooked by “scary” outfits.

Also popular are celebrity style costumes which resembled famous personalities, fictional characters, celebrities, and even politicians have an equal share in exposures during Halloween.

Other costumes that seem to have a following are clowns, nurses, cats, and that lowly Halloween symbol, the pumpkin. Superhero characters are also fast becoming popular costumes due to the popularity of modern toys based on comics and movies that have hit the silver screen in recent years. The demand for new and modern costumes have kept costume makers and costume rentals quite busy in the lead up to Halloween celebrations.

The fact that costumes for Halloween celebration have become so varied that the modern tradition have overshadowed the earlier tradition which makes wearing costumes during Halloween different from other dressing up feasts there is. And that is the concept of dressing up during Halloween is to mimic the supernatural, the ghoulish being, or basically the scary stuff.

Nevertheless, who are we to keep traditions from adapting to the modern times? Things will always evolve, that’s just how things naturally work. We can’t simply insist on wearing only scary stuff during Halloween. Creativity will play a role in this aspect and people will always seek out new ideas.

So not withstanding the darker origins of wearing Halloween costumes, we and our children and their children will continue to celebrate this day for as long as there are candies to share and creativity to spare.
